Healthy Living Optical Practices

Starting the New Year with HLOP

We are moving forward with HLOP in the New Year. After the engagement events we ran in late spring last year we had a bit of a hiatus before we were able to run our first Health Champions workshops in Mansfield. We provided training for 18 optical professionals and we were pleased to have a 100% pass rate.

We are now ready to provide our next wave of training and would like to invite you to the following training workshops.

Leadership for HLOP – Monday 25th March 2019

Health Champions for HLOP – Tuesday 26th March 2019

Both workshops will take place in the training room at The Temple Centre, 44 Nottingham Road, Nuthall, Nottingham NG16 1DP This is just off junction 26 of the M1, so we hope optical professionals from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire will find this accessible.

Healthy Living Optical Practices

Following the success of the Healthy Living Pharmacy initiative and the Healthy Living Optical Practice project in Dudley, the Local Professional Network for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire have obtained funds from NHS England to launch Healthy Living Optical Practice (HLOP) in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

The HLOP initiative will encourage optical practices to be seen as part of the wider public health system alongside other healthcare professionals. We believe that improving the signposting and referral processes we have to other healthcare professionals and agencies will lead to increased reciprocal referrals to optical practices.

This will bring a number of benefits: increased professional satisfaction, increased acknowledgement by the public that optical practices are part of the primary healthcare team and increased footfall into optical practices. There is also the opportunity to positively engage with CCGs, STPs and public health departments locally and also engage with health promotion services as an income stream in the future.
